1 Billion iPhone Users Hacked?

1 Billion iPhone users hacked?

Friday 6 September, 2019

Cyber security experts at Google have discovered a hack, specifically targeting iPhones, that could have been active for a number of years. Naturally, this attack on smartphone privacy and security is a major concern for all the users that could be affected. Worryingly, the hack on iPhone users appears to be able to access areas such as your contacts, images, texts, emails and other data areas including real-time location information.

The sheer length of time that this hack has been active means that a possible 1 billion users could have been affected. It appears that it has been affecting users from OS10 through to OS12 and has only been properly addressed with the issue of OS12.4.1.

The attack is thought to have been instigated through an initial visit to certain, unnamed, websites and is also thought to be from a state sponsored source. This prospect makes it even more worrying in the sense that, if one state is capable of this type and sophistication of attack, then there will be many others that will have the capability as well.
